External power contacts
On some keypads, two contacts on the face let a fresh cell power the lock from outside long enough to open the door.
Watch outProgramming lives in non-volatile memory: losing power does not reset your code.
What to look for
- Check whether your keypad has them — before you need them
- Nothing to buy if it does: a spare 9 V cell in a drawer is the whole kit

The problem it solves
Electronic locks fail on flat batteries far more often than on anything dramatic. Where this shows up →
