Who makes safes, and under which standard
Production follows certification: safes are built where there is a laboratory to test them and an insurance market that turns a grade into money. This directory is organised the same way — by country, and by the standard that applies there.
GRADES COME FROM THE REGISTERS, NOT THE BROCHURES.
An empty field costs a reader nothing; a wrong certificate number costs everything.

How this register is being built
- Names from open sources Certification bodies' own published lists, trade registers, the makers' own sites. Each entry records where it came from.
- Sites verified by request 23 of 25 answered on the date in the register. Two sit behind bot protection and are marked as unchecked rather than assumed working — and one well-known name was dropped when its domain turned out to be parked for sale.
- Grades only from the certifying bodies' own registers The ECB·S product locator and the VdS certificate register, both public. 17 of 25 makers are on one or both; for the rest the column says why not — most often that the register is closed to us, as UL's is without an account.
- Corrections from makers go in unedited If an entry about you is wrong, the fix is a document and a week — see method.
Why years are often missing
“Founded in 1879” is repeated across the trade so often that it reads as fact. We print a year only
where a source can be named. Eight of 25 entries currently qualify.
