Directory › Anatomy of an entry
What an entry contains, and where it comes from
Every field below has a source outside this site. That is the entire design: a directory whose facts come from the bodies that issued them, and whose gaps are visible rather than filled in.
Sample — no real certificate is reproduced here
This page shows the shape of an entry, not findings about any product. Certificate numbers,
classes and insurance figures appear only after the document has been seen and matched against
the issuing body's own register. Until then the field stays empty and says so.
THE DOCUMENT, NOT THE SLOGAN
- What the test covered
- Recorded from the certificate itself: complete or partial access, how many sides were attacked, which tool set was used, and whether the lock was certified separately.
- What it did not cover
- Named explicitly. Fire and burglary are separate tests, and a fire figure must never be read as a burglary one.
- What changes the answer
- Any revision to fill, boltwork or lock after the test date requires a re-issued certificate. The entry records the model designation exactly as printed on the document.
The fields, and their sources
| Field | Source | Filled in when |
|---|---|---|
| Maker, country, founded | Public company records, the maker's own site | At creation |
| Model designation | The certificate | Document seen |
| Class or grade | The certificate | Document seen |
| Issuing body and year | The certificate | Document seen |
| Register check | ECB·S, VdS, UL or national register | Checked, with the date of the check |
| Insurance sums | National insurer conventions, named per country | Only where a published convention exists |
| Weight, boltwork, relocker | Maker's technical sheet | Sheet received |
| Corrections | Readers, makers, our own review | Always, with a date |
Why the empty fields stay empty
A directory that guesses is a directory that has to be checked — which makes it worthless.
An empty field costs a reader nothing; a wrong certificate number could cost a manufacturer
a sale and this desk its reason to exist.
